Our approach

Person-centred care isn't a slogan. It's an approach.

We believe the person should remain at the centre of decisions about their care and support.

The person comes first

Your choices matter.

We listen to people's wishes, choices and preferences and involve them in decisions about their care as much as possible.

Where appropriate, families and carers may also be involved according to the person's wishes and circumstances.

Where a person lacks capacity to make a particular decision, Abina intends to follow relevant legal and professional requirements and act in the person's best interests.

Five principles

How we aim to work.

Listen

Before we can support someone properly, we need to understand them.

Understand

We look beyond the immediate care task to understand routines, preferences, circumstances and goals.

Respect

We protect dignity, privacy and choice.

Encourage

We support people to maintain their independence wherever possible.

Work together

We communicate appropriately with families and relevant professionals.
